Episode 102 of Hunger Games Fireside Chat will air live this Monday, April 8, at 10pm ET/7pm PT! This week, our panel of experts will include Shylah from Down with the Capitol, Crystal of Mockingjay.net and FictionalFood.net, Courtney of Welcome to District 12, Tiffany of Victor’s Village, Amanda of HG Girl on Fire, and Natalie of Tor.com.

Here’s what we have in store:

- We’ll discuss the news that the first Catching Fire teaser trailer will debut on Sunday, April 14, at the MTV Movie Awards. Are we surprised? Why is it being called a teaser when it’s purportedly two and a half minutes long?
- We’ll also weigh in on and analyze the 10-second preview of the teaser that MTV released last Wednesday (see the embedded video below). What do you think about this sneak peek? Tell us in a comment below and we’ll try to read your response on the air!
- Additionally, we’ll try and guess what The Hunger Games Explorer might be. Do you have any guesses? Leave a comment below!
- To wrap things up, we do a round of Catching Fire Pick a Page!

You can chat with other listeners throughout the live show by using our hashtag #HGFiresideChat on Twitter! We recommend TweetChat to easily follow along with the conversation.

I love how Jennifer is able to capture the ‘Katniss’ look with just one look. At the end of the teaser, I like how Katniss is trying to smile but can’t quite do it.

I also love what Effie is wearing. I mean we can’t see the front of her but it still looks very Capitol and Effie looking:P I really like the nice touch that Elizabeth does when she pats Katniss and Peeta on the back when their names are announced :)

I am really liking how district 11 looks too. It looks exactly how I imagined it while reading the book. Is it the district 11 mayor that’s announcing the victors??

Overall I love the trailer!:) short-yes but still enough to get us to fangirl over!;) CAN’T WAIT FOR THE 14th!!!!❤❤❤

  • Scottsdale says:

With Nelson Ascencio, who plays Flavius, having recently released that he had been interviewed and filmed for the DVD extras for Catching Fire, I wonder if you might discuss whether or not this means the roles of the prep team have been expanded this time around. The prep team actors were not interviewed for the first film’s special features, so surely this is an indication that we will be seeing more of them?! Wnd considering their important role in Mockingjay, having their roles expanded for Catching Fire would really be crucial. I would love to hear what you all think! Keep up the great work!

  • Kiersten Mattox says:

I love how Effie is touching Peeta and Katniss’ back. It really shows how excited she is to have a district who finally has a winner other than Haymitch. It also shows a sensitive side to her motherly instincts.

  • Inspector Javert says:

    My…. God….

I guess it just shows how big the franchise is getting if there are now teasers of teasers!

But seriously, it looks amazing. I’m personally hoping they’re in District 11 there- and that that is the precursor to the whole riots scene.

Everything about it is looking good, and how stunning does Jennifer look in that last shot of her face! Like a true victor- something I’m sure the Capitol worked tirelessly to achieve!

Hey, is that Valjean? *runs off*

  • Kasey V says:

The sneak peak we got of the teaser trailer was great! Just seeing that little bit of footage made me smile for quite some time. We are seeing more than trees in this one! YAY! Not that I didn’t love the trees in the Hunger Games one. *Laughs*

I love that it looks like it is the same world that we saw in the Hunger Games movie. Well at least it does so far. Jen looked great. Love the expression on her face as the teaser ended. Perfect! Sooooo is it the 14th yet? I am very much ready for some more!. I can’t wait to see what we receive!

  • Gaby N says:

Loved the “teaser’s teaser.” I felt that the District 11 reaping had kind of a “vintage feel” to it. The bonnets and the color pallet reminded me of the Civil Rights movement back in the 60s.

Also if you notice there are no Victory Tour posters/banners in the 1st few seconds, where the mayor (im assuming) of D11 is welcoming Katniss and Peeta. In one of the stills which we got in January, Katniss and Peeta were in front of large blue banners that said ’74′ on them. I assumed that it was for the Victory Tour, but now that I see that there are no banners in the D11 stop, it must be for another district.

When K & P are with Effie, Jen’s hair is tucked into a braid, instead of down (how it was in the last few seconds.) That must mean these are two different scenes. I wonder what the long hair down was for? Maybe just another stop on the Victory Tour. Jen’s hair is also noticeably darker. Were they aware of this? They must have noticed.. Maybe FLawrence wanted to stay more true to the book’s descrition of Katniss instead of Gary Ross’.

Overall, great to get a teaser in this news drought! Very different feel than ‘The Hunger Games’ but that’s okay, because we all knew Francis was a very different director, and Catching Fire is a very different book.

    • Gaby N says:

Sorry!! Not District 11 reaping, district 11 VICTORY TOUR STOP.

    • CakesAndCupcakes15 says:

I am really glad you pointed this out because I have been thinking about the same things you have written down. I am really curious about the part where we see the blue victory banners in the backround of the pics but none in the teaser. I have been closely examining these things and am very intrigued on what they are doing.

  • I really love how they showed D11 in there and I think that Jen/Katniss Looks amazing as always. I really wish they showed a little but of Finnick I can’t wait to see him!!!!

  • I wrote a short blog post about Effie’s outfit reminding me of angel’s wings. I found it kind of interesting since chapter 5 is the first time Katniss sees an angel in the D11 justice building room they were assigned. Though, she doesn’t know/realize it is a cherub–she just calls it a chubby kid with wings. I had my students look at Raphael’s Sistine Madonna painting and describe what it must be like seeing a cherub from Katniss’s viewpoint (when so many kids/people are starving to death). The irony (or hypocrisy?) strikes a chord with them when we discuss it in class. It probably doesn’t really look like wings, but that was the image that stuck in my mind when I first saw the teaser. :)

  • Gregory says:

I kinda thought the man introducing Katniss and Peeta sounded like someone from a fanmovie, but the rest was fantastic!

I loved the blue color tint used in the footage, it was reminiscent of the reaping scene and other scenes in the first movie. Maybe that blue tint is only used for stuff related to the 74th Hunger Games; maybe the 75th Hunger Games footage will be colored a different tint?

I’m also glad that we seem to be getting no shaky cam. The camera is only moving slightly in the exterior shot of the Justice Building and the close of up Jen.

We’re also getting a brief look of Francis Lawrence’s directing style. People call his style visually appealing, and I can see why. The shot of Effie’s back with Katniss and Peeta’s figures obscured in shadow and the only light coming from the windows on the door is actually pretty amazing.

I’m anxiously looking forward to Sunday for our first official look at Catching Fire footage and, of course, you guys’ second by second breakdown the day after! :-D

  • Annie B (@Anniepn23) says:

I loved the little 10 second teaser of the teaser we got! I actually cried a little when I first saw it. My mom liooked at me and Called me Hopeless. I loved the brief look at what I believe we are assuming is District 11. I do however believe that we are looking at multiple scene’s. Her hair is different in the first shot then it is in the ending shot. I also loved the fluent hand motions Effie uses, it really shows the proudness and enjoyment she has for bringing home not only one but two victors. It really is a relishing moment for her, where she believes all is dandy when really all is falling apart. Also Comment the Shoulder pads are Wowza! I really loved the forsed smile on Katniss’ face. You know she doesnt want to be there, she doesnt want to be congratulated and she doesnt want to look into the faces of the people who’s children Dident survive. Jendoes such a fabulous job and portraying that, even in just that little second scene.

Honestly, I believe that the Hunger games explorer may be something where we can go and watch trailer and maybe some BTS stuff and maybe it will give us back ground info on the victors/Tributes, kinda like what Lionsgate did with the Original Capitol Courture. Im pretty Positive it will be another interactive site.

  • Amdillae says:

I am the only one hopping that HG Explorer might be something like Pottermore for the Hunger Games, either using the graphics from HGA or movie set stills.

And I am going to echo Inspector Javert in the teaser of a teaser showing how big things have gotten (With me going YouTube to track down a copy I could watch in Australia due to MTV region blocking the clip.) I can’t wait for the rest of the teaser after seeing that look from Katniss in the teaser teaser.

  • Addy says:

I guessed that the teaser trailer was going to be April 14th like 2 weeks ago! I’m sooo happy to know I’m right! Since I started getting into the hunger games in April last year, I never experienced the whole trailer excitement with other people. Oh and about the hunger games explorer? I didn’t even know people where guessing what it was! I thought it was a countdown until the trailer and then it would appear on the site you know? Oh well. Oh and the teaser for the teaser? LOVED it! The way katniss had to force her smile says SOO much! I swear by that point of the video I was having an all out fan girl session. And like all of my fan girl break outs, my family thought I was a psychopath or was having a seizure. (They should be use to it by know) :)

  • Mel Cally says:

In the 10 seconds alone I already noticed Significant differences and similarities. Similarities they still have that blue/grey filter over the film giving the Districts this cold lonely feel. Differences just judging this from the exterior shot of (assuming) D11 there was NO shaky cam. You know for a fact that Ross would have had made the camera look like his was on vibrate even for a simple shot like a victory tour announcement! And that last shot of Katniss fake smiling would have been super zoomed in on her right eyebrow, showed half he mouth and would have done several cut shots for that one scene.

Now before you hang me by a noose like a old Seneca Crane dummy, let me say I LOVE Ross’ thinking process, his connection to the book and characters, and his spirit, but honestly I was not feeling the shaky cam (though his explanation on why he used it was understandable).

FLaw is already getting (more) of my approval. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us when the teaser trailer or trailer or what ever the heck they’re releasing on 4/14, is going to be like! He seems to know what works for the last film and what didn’t.

S/N this is a TEASER Trailer right, that’s coming up on the 14th? I assume that because that’s what MTV is reporting it as, but MTV is also reporting that its going to be 2 1/2 mins… which is confusing because I thought that 2 1/2 mins is about the same length as a normal trailer. I’m quite confused because some fan sites are saying its a FULL trailer…

  • Clayton Galtier says:

The teaser is just… Wow. So much in such a little footage

  • Mary Ivie says:

It is her arm raised in that last shot. (I do still use explorer. But I am part of that older group you mentioned. )

  • SparkingTheFlame says:

I am so excited for the trailer. I have been waiting forever for this day to finally come. Once the trailer is out I will watch it 100,000,000 times. True story. After watching it that many times, piratically memorizing every word from the trailer, it should be time to see the movie by then. GOSH I CANT WAIT!!! I LOVE JENNIFER LAWRENCE SO MUCH! :D
