Episode 88 of Hunger Games Fireside Chat will air live this Monday, December 10, at 10pm ET/7pm PT! This week, our panel of experts will include Shylah from Down with the Capitol, Crystal of Mockingjay.net and FictionalFood.net, Rebekah from Victor’s Village, Courtney of Welcome to District 12, and Ariel of Nerdy, Wordy, and Almost Thirty.

– As you could probably tell by the title of this episode and the picture above, it’s time for another installment of Fireside Recs! Woohoo! This week we’re going to be talking all about J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit since the movie opens in the U.S. on the 14th.

– We’ll also briefly chat about Josh Hutcherson’s fake head injury, which you can see in these new pictures.

– Lastly, in light of the news that “Safe & Sound” and “Abraham’s Daughter” have both been nominated for Grammy Awards, we’ll chat a bit about the Catching Fire soundtrack. Do we think they’ll do another companion-style album this time around? What do we think the tone of that album might be like? What artists would we like to see featured? If you have any passionate feelings about any of this, please leave a comment below!

You can chat with other listeners throughout the live show by using our hashtag #HGFiresideChat on Twitter! We recommend TweetChat to easily follow along with the conversation.

I think there will most definitly be a companion soundtrack album Hunger Games: Catching Fire movie. I really feel as though the tone of the album will be very powerful as well as somber in some parts. I would love to see Brandi Carlile make an apperance on the sound track as well as the talents of Linkin Park, Christinia Perri, Alex Clare, Alanis Morrissette, Sia, and reaperance’s by Taylor Swift, The Civil Wars, and Arcade Fire. I also think it would be wonderful if Lenny could do on song on the soundtrack as well.
I have on other band suggestion that I feel as though would be capable of doing a wonderful job in ceating and preforming a song for the soundtrarck, that band being Hollywood Undead. Yes their music style is not to many people’s taste and their music is not always the most appropriate, but many of their songs hold deep emotion and meaning and I think that is something the sound track needs to have, a song with emotion and meaning that moves people. I think they would do a wonderful job and I would love to hear them on the soundtrack.

  • Allison (The HungerJay) says:

I am so happy for taylor swift and civil wars for getting a grammy nomination! It will end up being great fore our franchise and artists, I really hope they both come back for catching fire! Now for a comment on the hobbit: I am literally a fresh new fan to the lord of the rings series, I watched the core 3 movies over the weekend and am SO FREAKIN EXITED! Although I wonder, how can they take the actors after ten years and make them look so… young? I guess. I don’t know… I guess we’ll just have to see it!

  • Emma says:

I totally think that they’ll do another companion soundtrack since that last one was so popular. And I’d love to see Coldplay, mumford and sons, the strokes, linkin park (cause i liked the song they did for transformers….dont judge me) and as much as I want to say lady gaga I don’t think she’d be good for catching fires soundtrack.

  • On The Hobbit: I read the book when I was 9 or 10, my dad is a HUGE LOTR fan and he used to tell me stories of hobbits and rings instead of fairytales while growing up, so when I turned 9 or 10 he lend me his (very old) copy of The Hobbit and I really liked it (except for Gollum who scared me a lot xD). I re-read it later when I was older and I still love it, the tone is different from LOTR, more whimsical and funny. I love Bilbo and the scene when the dwarves keep showing up at his house is one of my favorites ever.

On the soundtrack, I’m glad for the nominations but I think it’s going to be very difficult to win, some of the other nominees are amazing and let’s remember that “Man or Muppet” won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, a Sierra Award for Best Song and a Georgia Film Critics Association Award for Best Original Song as well…which is kind of a coincidence for the episode since Bret McKenzie, who wrote the song, is from New Zeland and made a cameo in The Fellowship of the Ring & The Return of the King, and will play Lindir in all The Hobbit movies =)

I’m so excited for to talk about the soundtrack. I’ve already put a lot of thought into it.

Not my song suggestion, but this is just to give a feel of their band sound:

    Lumineers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS1SzGi03RM

    Imagine Dragons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiO2-R8yKjE

    Delta Rae: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bimam2j2gEg

    Daughter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEpMj-tqixs

And also I would mind some more from The Civil Wars (though the band is sort of in a rocky time at the moment) but hopefully they’ll get their act together in time for the soundtrack.

  • Mel Cally says:

For some reason my comment didn’t post the first time. So I’ll rewrite it.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE some more from the Civil Wars, but since there’s trouble in TCW paradise, at this point I just hope they stick together.

Daughter- is this indie folk band from London (Don’t judge me I know I sound like a pretentious hipster, but they are REALLY good) Smother, Youth, Home, and Medicine are some great music to get a feel for their sound

Lumineers- Which everyone probably knows is a really cool band, they would do awesome at doing a sound for a movie like this. Stubborn Love and Big Parade are good to get a feel of their sound

Delta Rae- Which is this kind of mix of Country and Blues with a cool focused harmony type of band. Bottom or the River and Morning Come are good to get a feel of their sound

The Avett Brothers- This crazy Bluegrass/Country/Rock group (I suggest EVERYONE see them live… phenomenal! They do amazing with slow and fast music very unique. Head full of doubt./Road full of promise and Colorshow are good songs to get a feel of their sound.

Imagine Dragons- Alternative Rock band, really cool. America and Radioactive would be a good one. They’re also probably the most different out of all the bands I just mentioned because they also incorporate a bit of “dubstep” like sounds into some of their sounds… but not a lot.

Paramore- This band is just too awesome for words. This band is probably the most known band so I don’t need to say much more. They are awesome writers and I know they will find the emotion depth that is in the books.

Anyway you can see I spent a lot of time thinking into this; I REALLY enjoyed all the different artist we got from the first companion album and I still listen to it all the time today.

  • Sylvia says:

I think that they probably will do another companion-style soundtrack like last time. I remember for twilight they had Christina Perri sing another song for the Breaking Dawn part 2 cuz hers for part 1 had been such a success. I think they should do this for Taylor Swift because Safe and Sound and Eyes Open were so perfect. I think it will have the same feel because they are in District 12 for a lot of Catching Fire. It could be different though because the Arena is so different and you see a different side of the capitol in CF. I can’t wait to see! <3

  • Kasey V says:

Very pleased about the Grammy nominations! Especially since “Safe and Sound” as well as “Abraham’s Daughter” Are two of my favorite songs from the album.

I am sure there will be a soundtrack for Catching Fire. And I can not wait to listen to it when it comes out.

The Hobbit! 😀 Yes I am very excited. How can one not be? From what I have seen from previews it looks amazingly beautiful when it comes to imagery. I may try and re read the hobbit before I see it… but will have to wait and see. But yes will defo be going to see it and taking my dad too. 😀

I’m happy for the nominations, and although I’m not familiar with the other songs on the Best Country Duo/Group performance, I would think that Safe & Sound has a better shot of winning there than the one for Visual Media Performance, where the votes for THG might be split between Safe & Sound and Abraham’s Daughter, thus giving the most votes to Mumford & Sons/Birdy for their “Brave” song, Learn Me Right. Not discounting the others, though, it might be a surprise win for the other nominees.

As for The Hobbit, I plan on watching it at the only theater in my city that will be showing it in HFR and Dolby together, which is a new Arclight theater about 40 minutes away from where I live. Also means I won’t be seeing it at midnight on Thursday night, but as long as I don’t get carsick from the high frame rate, then I should be able to thoroughly enjoy my time watching it. Maybe I should bring a vomit bag with me, too.
