“Unscripted 5.0

If you missed Episode 82 live tonight, you can click HERE to listen to the recording OR simply use the embedded player below.

Episode 82 of Hunger Games Fireside Chat will air live this Monday, October 29, at 10pm ET/7pm PT! This week, our panel of experts will include some of our frightening friends from Down with the Capitol, creepy Crystal from Mockingjay.net and FictionalFood.net, cackling Courtney from Welcome to District 12, twisted Tiffany from Victor’s Village, noxious Natalie of Crushable, and appalling Ariel of Nerdy, Wordy, and Almost Thirty.

First of all: Happy Halloween to those of you who celebrate it! If you’re dressing up as a Hunger Games character, we’d love to see a picture!

Second of all: It’s time for our monthly “Unscripted” episode! We have no set plan or agenda in place. Instead, we’ll spend the evening pulling listener-submitted questions, discussion topics, Crackpot Theories, What Ifs?, Would You Rathers?, and Cave/Marry/Kills out of our trusty grab bag. We’ll choose topics from the grab bag (or “topic cornucopia”) at random and discuss, debate, and speculate! If you’d like to submit a topic for us to include in the grab bag, leave a comment below or email us at firesidehosts@gmail.com! Bonus points if it’s Halloween-related!

Update: All the topics we pulled out of the grab bag are listed below!
– Which Catching Fire tributes would you most like to have with you if you had to spend the night in a haunted house? (from Vaultmaster)
– What would the Mellark bakery sell during Halloween? (from Tess)
– Many people think that if Katniss didn’t go into the Games, she would have eventually married Gale. Do you agree? Or were Gale and Katniss never suited for a romantic relationship? More importantly, would Katniss have been able to overcome her stated fear/aversion of marriage and kids with Gale? (from Satsuma)
– Were the Districts and the Capitol renamed [after the rebellion]? (from Matilda)
– What if: Cato and Clove were the star-crossed lovers? (from McKenna)

You can chat with other listeners throughout the live show by using our hashtag #HGFiresideChat on Twitter! We recommend TweetChat to easily follow along with the conversation.

  • Are you guys going to talk about why Lyme wasn’t in the victor’s meeting at the end of Mockingjay? I thought you were going to talk about it in last week’s episode and you didn’t get to it. Needless to say, I am really looking forward to hearing you guys discuss it.

    • Savanna says:

Yes, we’ll get back to poor ol’ Lyme! Haha.

  • Tess says:

I’ve got a few things. I’ll start first off with the Halloween themed ones:

Do you think that they’d celebrate Halloween in the districts? Or would it be a purely capitol affair? And if so, what costumes do think they’d have? Dead tributes or victors maybe (for in the capitol)?

What would the Mellark bakery sell during Halloween?

Cave/Marry/Kill: Katniss, Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson.

Would you rather be able to reread and experience the trilogy for the “first time” again, or give that to opportunity to others by telling your friends about the trilogy?

Would you rather compete in the 74th or 75th area?

    • Savanna says:

Thanks, Tess! You always have such great suggestions! 🙂

  • Tess says:

    Emily?

    • Savanna says:

Whoops, I was emailing someone named Emily right as I was replying to your comment! LOL

  • Satsuma says:

Re Lyme: I always suspected that Coin arranged for her to be killed off, as another threat to her power. Also, for book purposes SC HAD to kill her off to ensure there was an odd number of victors for that final vote.

Now, for some what-ifs. I’d never seen the Twilight movies before, but I caught “New Moon” on FX last night, and it seems that Jake would never had a chance with Bella if Edward hadn’t left for her own good. That inspired some “what ifs”, mostly romance-themed. Though many of these may have been done already.

    1. Many people (especially Gale fans) think that if Katniss didn’t go into the Games, she would have eventually married Gale (and Peeta would have settled for some sensible Merchant Girl). Do you agree? Or, were Gale and Katniss never suited for a romantic relationship? More importantly (IMHO), would Katniss been able to overcome her stated fear/aversion of marriage and kids with Gale?

    2. If Peeta hadn’t been reaped for the Games, would he have volunteered? Many people seem to assume so, that he would have hoping to protect Katniss, but I’m personally not convinced. Sure, he volunteers for Haymitch in CF. But that’s after he’s survived one Games, and been “training like a Career”. Peeta in THG doesn’t seem very hopeful about his chances, so I don’t think it would have crossed his mind that he could help Katniss at all by going into the Games with her.

    3. If Peeta HAD volunteered for the 74th Games, how would this have changed the dynamic between him and Katniss? I think that the whole “star-crossed” lovers story Haymitch sells to sponsors wouldn’t have changed much. But, if Peeta had volunteered, Katniss would have known MUCH earlier that he had real feelings for her. How would she have responded to that?

    4. This is not a what-if, but speculation about another romance-related subject. In CF, Katniss revealed that in THG, “some genius made him [Gale] my cousin” in order to explain his importance to Katniss without detracting from the “star-crossed lovers” story. Who WAS this genius? A Capitol reporter wanting to sell the star-crossed lovers story? (I’ve read a theory that it may have been Cressida.)

Or, was it someone in D12 wanting to help Katniss and Peeta? That makes for even more speculation. Was it Mrs. Everdeen? Prim? Mrs. Hawthorne? One of the Mellarks? Mayor or Madge Undersee? Could it even have been Gale himself? (If it was, it would certainly improve my opinion of him!)

    • Savanna says:

Thanks, Satsuma! These are very interesting topics!

  • The Vaultmaster says:

    1. Which Catcing Fire tributes would you most like to have with you if you had to spend the night in a haunted house? (And not one of those cheap, gimmicky haunted houses, like a legit haunted house).

    2. Not Halloween related, but just wondering, since you all on the US East Coast have your Hurricane Sandy, how do you think some of the poorer districts along the east coast (like 12, I think) would have handled some of thse natural disasters? Since 12 is so poor, I can imagine these storms being devastating to poorer districts in Panem.

    3. Back to Halloween with a question- do you think the “scary” monsters of today, like Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, Mummies, etc would have carried on in folklore through to the Panem days? If Capitol residents celebrated Halloween, do you think they’d dress up as some completely new terrifying creature (mutts or something, maybe?) or do you think the tales we have today would have carried on through to the days of Panem and the Capitol?

    4. Which Hunger Games characters would throw the most awesome Halloween party? You know Plutarch or Effie would raise the roof if they were hosting one, with lavish Capitol food and decorations. Or would Beetee’s technical knowledge allow him to build rigs or set up scenarios that would frighten guests? He doesn’t live in the Capitol, though. I’d love to hear what you have to say!

    • Savanna says:

      Thank you! Great suggestions!

  • Tess says:

Haha that’s okay Savannah. I’m glad you enjoy my suggestions enough to remember me 🙂

  • Addy says:

Hey are you guys gonna call that hunger games hotline again? that was funny!

  • Sym says:

Here’s an election topic mabey you can put it in for next week.
How do you think they do elections in Panem, if they even have them?
Is it like a bloodline thing or do they have an election every few years or hen the previous pres. dies?
    Your show is awesome!

    • Savanna says:

Ooh, great suggestion! We’ll definitely try and discuss this!
