With liongates tribute parade arriving I find the blasting for chaff was perfect. But besides that I have my share of conserns. It seems enobaria is to pretty to be the ruthless throat ripping career she is. The gloss casting is fine if they do a few tweaks- you must admit the route their going with gloss is like Cato pretty but almost to pretty to be believable. Same with clove- you see this small girl and then your see he stab kids with
Knifes! I’m worried but I can only hope lions gate knows what their doing!

  • Allison says:

Ps its been 7 weeks since the last unscripted that should be every month than leaves 1 more week
    For possibility hint hint =D

    • Savanna says:

Yep, you’re right, but we aren’t going to do an Unscripted episode when we have tons of casting news to talk about!

  • Amanda says:

To be honest I have no idea how to feel about all the recent casting. I don’t know much about the actors but at least they look the part. All I really hope is that they can play their part well. (They probably will because Lionsgate has made some very good casting decisions in the past.)

  • Tess says:

It seems that you were right Adam and Savannah. They had a lot of casting to get out of the way and they were about to start filming. Result? Casting week! I have never heard of any of the actors before and didn’t have much of an opinion on them. I think Chaff looks great, and so do the others. I’m glad they chose an African American actress for Enobaria, even if it wasn’t what I picked. It will hopefully put to rest the ‘district 11 is the only distirct with African Americans’ talk.
Also on a side note, Did you guys see the video of Alan Ritchson (Gloss) trying out for American Idol? It’s so funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkTRHDpv9Rw

  • Miranda says:

Gloss casting worries me for one reason- there is NO actor who has been rumored to be in the running for (excep maybe Armie Hammer) that could top him looks wise.

  • Maia says:

I was surprised with so many casting annoucements. Now with Maria Howell cast as Seeder is amazing , she is very pretty.

Did anyone guess that it would be five cast annoucements by your next show ?

  • Maia says:

I know we are all fans , but if you guys can give a quick background about the characters? They have cast district 2, and district 11, but Gloss from district 1 doesn’t have his female tribute yet? Which is Cashmere.

But thanks anyway if not enough time : )

  • Satsuma says:

I’m not familiar with most of these actors except for Meta Golding (from her stint on Criminal Minds). However, I have found some of the little controversies that I’ve seen develop across various fansites rather interesting, such as:

    1. Is Golding “too pretty” to play Enobaria? This one I’d refute. While the promo pic LG used on their page does look very “glamour-girl”, If you actually see clips and screenshots of her work, while she is certainly pretty, but there’s more to her than a “District 1” type pretty face.

    2. Some have stated that with Gunn being so big and burly, if they film the confrontation between Peeta and Brutus, they would find it “laughable” to have someone like Josh portrayed as winning a fight with someone as Gunn.

Now, this certainly could be addressed in a later show, will the CF movie show Peeta killing Brutus or not. We might not if they decide to stick to Katniss POV at the end of the movie. But personally, I would prefer we see this happen. Peeta didn’t directly kill anyone in the THG movie, even his claim of “finishing off” D8 girl was edited out. Showing him actually killing someone in the QQ, I think is in keeping with the darker turn his character arc takes in MJ.

    3. Some have stated that Gloss being played by such a conventionally attractive
“male model” type is concerning, that he might wind up looking MORE attractive than whoever plays Finnick. I personally really don’t care, but I know this is a major issue for many people, and maybe you guys can address it?

    4. Re casting for Seeder, some have stated that Howell seems too young to play Seeder. But I think such people are under-estimating the effects of Hollywood makeup (remember, these are the people who created SENECA’S BEARD, can’t we give them more credit?)

  • i’d love to see the points satsuma mentioned discussed in today’s episode! would make for a good debate, i think.

personally, so far i’ve liked everybody they’ve cast, and i find the complaining of some fellow fans to be grating, since in reality these are all minor characters, and the only thing they really have over the unnamed tributes is that they got a small description (which i feel lionsgate stuck to, honestly) and MAYBE a small moment with katniss (in the case of chaff and seeder, for example). complaining about johanna/finnick/beetee/wiress/mags not being exactly as described, i can understand, but when people make their dislike of these casting choices such a very big deal, like the movie’s going to be RUINED if enobaria doesn’t look exactly like they imagined she would, i just find it silly.

also, about seeder– we don’t know how old maria howell is, do we? true, she does look very young in the headshot LG used for the announcement, and in fact in many of the pictures i googled, but maybe those pictures are just old. in some of them, if you look past the make-up, she looks like she could be in her 50’s, which is not a bad age for seeder, i think, even if it’s not the exact age she is in the books. does it matter if she’s younger, really? it’s not like she looks 25.

  • Amanda says:

I never thought much (casting wise) about the characters we have gotten in the past few days because many of them are minor characters, but I do like the person they chose to play Gloss. He is pretty close to how I imagined Gloss when I read Catching Fire.

  • ahmad says:

I love all the casting especialy gloss

  • Satsuma says:

Hi Carla (girls_are_weird): I agree that some of the criticism is “grating” and nitpicky. I also find it frustrating when people assume that whatever pic is thrown up on that casting page is exactly how the actor or actress will look like in the movie. I mean, they have pics of Jen and Josh up there with their natural hair colors, too, and we know they won’t look that way in the movie.

BTW, I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, I’ve read your essays on Katniss and Peeta and I really thought you “get” both of them as characters very well!

Final word: I had an idea about who Mystery Woman could be. What if it’s Paylor? Maybe she, not Bonnie and Twill, will be the D8 refugee Katniss meets in the forest. That would foreshadow Mockingjay, but not as much as if President Coin was the Mystery Woman. Now, I have no problem with Coin being shown at the end of CF, it would actually be a nice parallel to how Snow is shown at the end of THG. But publicizing her casting now would give away the fact that there is a D13 for her to be President of, which would spoil things for those who haven’t read the books.

  • I think most of the cast looks almost too young for their parts. Although, I thought that the cast for the first movie looked too old, but they did an excellent job with making them look the part.

  • I like Bruno for Brutus he has that edgy biker look i saw for Brutus. Meta was a intresting choice for enobaria but i think i like it even though she wasent what i saw i saw a blonde bombshell to play her but i like meta just sharpe her teeth haha. Alan Ritchson is well ok he is really full of himself and i dont like that, that and we just saw gloss in his underwear instead of finnick. last but not least maria and e. rodger are not at all how i saw chaff and seeder i always pictured seeder as a native american and chaff more aged looking but i like them still i trust lionsgate and the decisions im sure they will all be great.

  • ahmad says:

fun fact: i actually bought the underwear that gloss modeled before lol

  • ahmad says:

P.s not the actual underwear but the brand

    • Savanna says:

      LOL! That’s amazing!

  • @satsuma– oh, thanks! i’m glad you liked my essays (or, really, they’re more like typed-up rants, LOL). it’s been forever since i thought of those…

i like your idea of the mystery woman being paylor! i never really saw much of a point to bonnie and twill, personally, other than just letting katniss know that D8 was rebelling, but anyone could do that, really. and i like the idea that they might give paylor a bit more screentime if that’s the case, because in all honesty, she sort of popped up out of nowhere for me, and all of a sudden she was president. if in the movie they integrate her a little more before that, that’d be great for me.

(i still keep my fingers crossed that it might be coin… i agree it would be one huge spoiler not just for mockingjay but even for the end of CF, but i think it would just be too epic if they end the movie like that, so i’m still hoping for it).

    • Savanna says:

I just want to thank both of you for your super thoughtful/insightful/intelligent comments!

  • I’m several months too late to comment on this, but I just find some of these complaints bizarre. Especially the one about Gloss being too conventionally attractive. Hello, Gloss *is supposed to be* the most conventionally attractive guy there, just like his sister Cashmere is supposed to be the most conventionally attractive woman. They are described as “classically beautiful”. Finnick is described as one of the most sensual people in the world – it’s about far more than conventional good looks with him.

Furthermore, Brutus is a Career who has won the Games and has kept himself in great shape 20+ years later, of course he’s going to be big and strong!

Enobaria’s looks are never even described, so I don’t see how she’s “too pretty”. Too pretty to be ruthless? As if those are mutually exclusive. Tell that to the District 1 people like Glimmer, Gloss and Cashmere. District 2 doesn’t put as much emphasis on looks in their Tributes as District 1 does, but it’s not like they would be intentionally looking for unattractive kids, or that they aren’t aware that good-looking Tributes are likely to have an advantage when it comes to sponsors. So why shouldn’t Enobaria be attractive?
