8/30/13: Cool Stuff We Found This Week Friday 30 August, 2013

Whenever a casting announcement is made, it’s the habit of many fandom members to immediately check nikola-nickart’s Tumblr for a new edit. So of course we had to feature his latest creations this week. If you aren’t following him on Tumblr already, go do so now!

Natalie Dormer as Cressida:

Evan Ross as Messalla:

Stef Dawson as Annie Cresta:

Next up is this gif, which was made by secretsnsugarcubes. We love this so much. It could almost pass for an official movie poster, right? Go follow secretsnsugarcubes and take a look at the rest of the rest of their stuff (it’s all incredible).

Lastly, Crystal from Mockingjay.net showed us this Hello Kitty-meets-Katniss design by kentcribbs on Redbubble, and we immediately fell in love! You can get this printed on a variety of T-shirt and hoodie styles, with prices ranging from $21 to $45.

Got to confess, I usually don’t find photomanips that appealing, most of the ones I see on tumblr are low-quality, “I spent 5 minutes using PS Lite on my lunch break, what do you expect for free” pieces that have little artistic merit or creativity.

However, I am consistenly impressed by how Nikola-Nickart not only has great technical skills, but knows how to tweak the available images of actors and actresses just enough to get them into character. I thought Stef had a bit of the “vulnerable waif” look anyway, but now that I’ve seen her in character as Annie, I can’t imagine anyone else playing the part! He also managed to shatter my Tudors/GOT images of Natalie Dormer, and get Evan Ross totally Capitol-ified. (I must confess, I’d forgotten that Messalla came from the Capitol, thanks for the reminder!)

I agree with you about the photomanips. But nikola-nickart’s are ridiculously amazing. I have no idea how he’s able to churn them out so quickly — I think he must prepare the bodies/backgrounds in advance? He’s so talented.
