12/14/12: Cool Stuff We Found This Week Friday 14 December, 2012

We don’t think we’ve featured any food in a Cool Stuff post yet, so when we came across this cake earlier in the week, we knew we had to show it to you guys. The cake is called “Frosting, the Final Defense of the Dying” and was made by Landee of Landee See, Landee Do back in 2009 for a Hunger Games cake contest on a friend’s blog. This is definitely one of the most unique Hunger Games cakes we’ve seen online!

Next, we found a really awesome Hunger Games nail art tutorial by YouTuber ArtisticNailArtz. We love how she translated the first book’s cover art onto her nails! Do you think you’d have the patience to do this on your own nails?

We saw this piece of fan art pop up on Pinterest recently and our jaws just dropped. Does someone out there want to give us the funds to open a fandom art gallery? Daria — or kakao-bean on deviantART — has such an unbelievably beautiful style that we kind of just want to stare at her works forever. The Mockingjay poster shown here actually reminds us a lot of Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People, which is why it initially caught our eye. We’re not sure if this was intentional or not (since Delacroix’s painting also depicts a revolution), but either way — VERY cool! The rest of Daria’s Hunger Games-inspired art is just as stunning, so be sure to go check it all out.

Lastly, we wanted to show you a cute series of Hunger Games comics written and illustrated by kahh-poww at deviantART. The series is called “Peeta Problems,” and each episode humorously depicts poor Peeta facing some sort of problematic or frustrating situation. Take Episode 2, for example:

Poor Peeta!
