9/14/12: Cool Stuff We Found This Week Friday 14 September, 2012

First up is this super cool animation by Linda Vuorenvirta featuring Katniss’s transformation from bride to Mockingjay.

I begin to panic as the smoke thickens. Charred bits of black silk swirl into the air and pearls clatter to the stage. Somehow I’m afraid to stop because my flesh doesn’t seem to be burning and I know Cinna must be behind whatever is happening. So I keep spinning and spinning. (Mockingjay, Chapter 17)

Next up is this beautiful poster from the Entropy Trading Company Etsy shop. The minimalist design features the four notes to Rue’s song/whistle. An 11″ x 14″ print is just $15, which we think is a pretty great deal. Entropy Trading Company has some other Hunger Games-themed prints available, so be sure to check out all the listings in their shop!

It’s not that difficult to find mockingjay pin decals these days, but what we haven’t seen is decals featuring the mockingjay symbols from all three book covers. Until now! Quotes & Quips is offering this set of three vinyl decals for a mere $9.99!

This last thing is actually something we first found a long time ago, but we re-discovered it this week. We’re all familiar with Sam Cushion’s incredible interpretation of “The Hanging Tree,” but this version by YouTube user VioletMockingJay and her boyfriend is equally brilliant. It has a very Appalachian feel to it, and the ending is just…well…listen and find out! 😉

Wow I really liked that cover of the hanging tree. It just reminds me how brilliant Suzan Collins is at writing songs in the Hunger games series and the impact they can have.
