7/13/12: Cool Stuff We Found This Week Friday 13 July, 2012

What a week this has been! Not only did we get a Plutarch Heavensbee, but we also learned the release dates for Mockingjay: Part 1 AND Mockingjay: Part 2 (11/21/14 and 11/20/15 respectively). So exciting!

Fittingly, the first cool thing we found this week is this incredible Mockingjay poster made by Tumblr user cleverdeeen. Seeing the way that cleverdeeen played with the mockingjay pin really got us thinking about what the promotional materials for Catching Fire will look like! Update: We found cleverdeeen’s Catching Fire poster at deviantART! Click here to see it!

What were you doing when you were 10 years old? Were you composing violin concertos inspired by your favorite books and movies? Probably not. Which is why Matilde Heckler’s achievement is pretty freakin’ amazing. She wrote a Hunger Games-themed concerto called “District 12” that was recently performed by an orchestra of her strings camp peers. After you watch the performance below, click here to read an article about Matilde.

Last but not least, we found this incredible interpretation of Katniss’s “Girl on Fire” costume for sale on Etsy. It was designed and made by Jill Perkins, owner of the RetroSewCo shop. From the shop description:

Here is my interpretation of Katniss Everdeen’s Capitol presentation outfit, inspired by the movie costume. This costume, patterned and made by me is a three piece outfit consisting of un-lined fitted jacket, long slim pencil skirt with side slits, and halter bra top.

The costume is “only” $325. Let us know if you get it!
