International Women's Day: Honor Suzanne Collins and Katniss! Thursday 08 March, 2012

(Art by Hallie)

Katniss. Prim. Rue. Annie. Johanna. What do all of these characters have in common? They are all amazing, inspiring women of course!

Today we are celebrating our favorite female characters for International Women’s Day with our friends over at The HPA’s Imagine Better Project. Think of today as a day to reflect on how authors like Suzanne Collins portray women in a positive light by making them strong, thoughtful, smart, and rebellious.

What do YOU think makes your favorite female characters great? You can get involved today by telling everyone who your favorite women in literature, TV, and movies are and what makes them so special. Check out everyone else’s stories, too — let’s make it a great day to celebrate women!

The HPA invited several female figures from the Hunger Games fandom to write guest blog posts highlighting fictional women who have inspired and empowered them. We urge you all to go read their beautiful words:

– Tracee Orman, Hunger Games Lessons: The Power to Make a Difference
– Jenn Nguyen, peenisseverlark.tumblr.com: Coming soon!
– Shylah Addante, Down with the Capitol: Coming soon!
– Savanna New, Hunger Games Fireside Chat: Coming soon!
