Panelist of the Week: Ariel Tuesday 28 February, 2012
To help you all get to know our regular panelists a bit better, we’ll be spotlighting one (or two!) here each week!
This week, we’d like you to meet grammarian, costumer, and Wrocker extraordinaire Ariel of Nerdy, Wordy, and Almost Thirty!
Which is your favorite book in the series?
Ariel: The Hunger Games.
What do your friends and family think of your Hunger Games obsession?
Ariel: They’re relieved to know there is something else I love besides Harry Potter.
Which district would you most like to live in?
Ariel: Being a New York City native, I would probably say the Capitol. This says nothing about my personality, just the fact that I enjoy large cities. I also like bright colors.
Which Hunger Games character do you think you are most like?
Ariel: This is a difficult question. I really do not identify very closely with any of the characters. It would be easier for me to tell you which Hunger Games characters I aspire to be like. The answer to that would be some combination of Peeta and Cinna. Strong, brave, romantic, creative, unique, and kind.
Which two tributes (victors included) would you most want to ally with in the arena?
Ariel: I thought this would be a hard one, but it turns out it’s not. Thresh and Rue. Rue would give me kindness, encouragement, and speed. Thresh would provide strength and honor.
If you could ask Suzanne Collins ONE question about the series, what would it be?
Ariel: I would love to know if she had any idea this was going to happen. She was already a seasoned author before The Hunger Games was published, but not too well known. I am curious to know if she had any inkling of the path she was about to take.
What are some of your interests outside of The Hunger Games?
Ariel: As I mentioned before, I am an active member of the Harry Potter fandom. I have my own Wizard Rock band called Madam Pince and the Librarians (librarywrock.bandcamp.com). In my “real” life I work for a well known not-for-profit company and am currently earning a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Sciences. I also keep a monthly blog, Nerdy, Wordy, and Almost Thirty (nerdywordythirty.blogspot.com) about all things nerdy in my personal and professional life. In my spare time I write poetry, dance, and craft.
