Finding Finnick Odair: Week 9 Monday 27 February, 2012

Welcome to Week 9 of Finding Finnick Odair! Because there are SO many potential Finnicks out there, your favorite Hunger Games sites have gotten together to introduce you to a number of actors who, at some point or another, have had their names tossed into the “Finnick ring” by fans. Each week, we’ll showcase a different actor and assess his Finnick potential. If you missed Week 8, click here to read what we had to say about Taylor Kitsch.

This week, we’re taking a look at Colton Haynes, a 23-year-old actor and model best known for playing Jackson Whittemore on MTV’s Teen Wolf. (Fun fact: Haynes auditioned for the role of Edward in the Twilight movies.) So, what’s our assessment?

Hunger Games Fireside Chat
Savanna: Unless there’s some sort of unspoken rule that at least one Abercrombie model must be cast in each film in the franchise, I’m not sure why Colton Haynes should be considered for the part of Finnick. He’s obviously incredibly attractive, but like many of the other actors we’ve discussed in the Finding Finnick Odair series, he’s too young. He’s 23, a year younger than Finnick is in Catching Fire, but he could pass for a teenager (and is currently playing one on Teen Wolf), which isn’t a good thing. I’m not really familiar with his work, so I don’t feel qualified to judge his acting abilities, but I personally haven’t heard or seen anyone praising his talent. Adam adds: This wolf would be better off noshing away at vampires and other supernaturals, leaving the complexities of Finnick Odair to a true character actor. Remember: Finnick is stunningly handsome, but he also has depth. Surely, there must be a top-notch actor on this Earth who also happens to be really really, ridiculously good-looking.

The Hob
Amanda: The more pictures of Colton Haynes that I look at, the more attractive and Finnick-like he seems to me. And I love the fact that he’s a fan of The Hunger Games, as so many of the other cast members are. But I can’t weigh him fairly for the role of Finnick because I’ve never seen any of the TV shows he’s appeared on, and unfortunately, his IMDb page doesn’t leave me too confident in his acting abilities. I may be wrong — perhaps he can pull off the emotional depths required for Finnick — though for now I can’t say I’m a huge fan of him for the role.

Mockingjay.net
Crystal: I’ve never heard of Colton Haynes until now and I have to say that judging by looks alone, I’m not a big Colton supporter. I can’t really describe it, but he just looks like he’s not real. He looks like a store mannequin for some reason! If they ever made a live action Toy Story 3, he’d make a perfect Ken doll. I haven’t seen him in anything, so I really don’t know how his acting skills are. I’m sorry, but I think there’s a better Finnick out there! 🙁

Well, you’ve heard what we have to say! What do YOU think? Would you like to see Colton Haynes play Finnick? Let us know in the comments!

Finding Finnick Odair will be on hiatus for the next several weeks while we cover the movie premiere. But never fear: It will be back again soon!

    Benjamin Stone for # 10!!!!

  • Kaitlin says:

How about Hunter Parrish?? I think he would have made a great Peeta but I think he could work as Finnick too.

  • Kaitlin says:

Hunter Parrish is a better looking Benjamin Stone. UPDATE! I dont know if this is a rumour but I just searched IMDB for “Finnick Odair” and Daniel Newman popped up! And after looking at him, I might agree.

  • Chelsie says:

What about Freddie Stroma? He’s very attractive, has an edge to his look, and can pull off the cocky attitude.

  • Sarah says:

    I don’t think so.

  • Alhana says:

    How about Alexander Skarsgård?

  • Arlow says:

Yes! I agree with Chelsie. Freddie Stroma would be perfect!!

    FREDDIE IS FINNICK.

  • Lyndsey says:

I want Ben Stone he is sooooo hot and he played alek who is exactly like finnick and mastered it he would b PERFECT!!!!!!!

  • Nicole says:

  • Bee says:

okay, no one hit me because this could hit hard,

  • Julie says:

Some great people that could play Finnick are: Ryan Kwanten, Colton Haynes, *chris pine, Lachlan Buchanan, Armie Hammer, but if I had to pick one definitely Colton Haynes!!

  • Jazzy says:

    Chace Crawford as finnick!

  • phoebe says:

I think Luke mitchell or grant gustin would be gould and they both really like the books 🙂 i think my favourite is armie so far XD !!! I <3 HG

  • Tina says:

    Chris Hemsworth!

  • Kat says:

got bad news, guys. Looks like Daniel Newman, who was on Vampire Diaries for two episodes as one of Klaus’s hybrids is going to be Finnick Odair.

  • Macy says:

I don’t know why, but I have always pictured Lachlan Buchanan as Finnick Odair. He has that…look. I pictured his face when I read about Finnick.

  • Mary says:

Chris Pine. Hands down. He is perfect and exactly what I imagined when I thought of Finnick. If he had blonder hair he would be a perfect match, but I’m sure if he got the role that they would dye it like they did with Josh Hutcherson’s hair. He has an enormous amount of both serious and comedical acting, so I think he would pull off the emotional side of Finnick perfectly as well!! I really hope he gets it. With anyone else I would be disappointed!

  • Olive says:

I am gonna be so mad if you don’t cast Grant Gustin. The whole book i was picturing him and he is the only one that fits the part, I’m not sure if he is one of your options but he is just so rite for the part!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chaise says:

    Joey Graceffa, anyone? <3
But other than him, I really liked the idea of Armmie Hammer as Finnick. (:

  • tasha says:

I say hell yes to either Alex pettyfer or colton Haynes <3 love them both and they both deffientley have the finnick look to them
